How to prepare for a portrait, branding or engagement photoshoot in Vancouver, and why camera-ready makeup differs from everyday makeup.
Cameras flatten features and exaggerate texture, so makeup for a photoshoot is built differently from everyday makeup. A little more definition, a controlled finish and attention to lighting make the difference between a good photo and a great one.
Before the shoot
Keep skin hydrated in the days before, avoid trying new skincare, and share your outfits, location and the photographer's lighting style with your makeup artist in advance.
Natural light vs. studio flash
Outdoor Vancouver light is often soft and overcast, which is flattering but can wash out colour. Studio flash can reveal shine and certain SPF products. Your artist will adjust the finish and intensity for each setting.
During the session
For longer branding or content shoots, plan time for touch-ups between looks. Blotting, lip refreshes and small adjustments keep every frame consistent.
